A halogen-free, ultra-high-performance ionic liquid boundary lubricant — trihexyltetradecylphosphonium bis(mandelato)borate ([P6,6,6,14][BMB]) — built to displace PFAS-based PFPE oils (Chemours Krytox GPL 106) in aerospace, high-vacuum robotics and semiconductor manufacturing equipment. Synthesized at ambient conditions by a low-CapEx aqueous metathesis from commodity feedstocks, and priced at parity with the incumbent, it delivers a >10x reduction in wear volume under extreme load while being exempt from the coming PFAS restrictions.
