A cement-free refractory castable built on potassium-activated metakaolin geopolymerization. It replaces calcium-aluminate-cement (CAC) high-alumina castables in steel-ladle, cement-kiln and petrochemical-furnace linings. The dry metakaolin-and-chamotte blend (Part A) is mixed on site with a potassium-silicate and KOH activator (Part B); it sets at ambient temperature and crystallises into kalsilite/leucite ceramic when fired. This removes the slow dry-out curve and the explosive-spalling risk of CAC, and turns production into a cold-chemical blending and bottling hub that bypasses the 1600°C clinkering kiln. This concept is proven in the peer-reviewed literature but has not been commercially validated.
